INFRASTRUCTURE

CoFUTURES has three critical infrastructures at the University of Oslo: The Holodeck (Games Research Lab), the SF Library (Science Library), and the Norwegian SF Archives.

Holodeck:  

State of the Art equipment

The Holodeck is equipped with the latest gaming equipment, including various consoles and a high-end gaming PC.

Transmedial Research

The Holodeck facilitates transmedial research into possible futures in games and interactive fiction.

Design and Development

The Holodeck serves as the base for development of CoFUTURES project games, apps, technologies, and media.

Impactful Games

Exploring planetary challenges such as climate change, pandemics, and colonization

Possible Worlds

Exploring worldbuilding strategies and possible worlds in/via virtual worlds

Urban Space

Exploring urban design and sustainability issues via video games

Playfulness

Exploring possibilities in speculative futures design and innovation via playful thinking

THINKING WITH SCIENCE

Housed within the Science Library at UiO, the collection connects with the natural science collection as well as the history of science collection.

THE SCIENCE FICTION SANDBOX

The collection is meant to encourage flexible "out-of-the-box" thinking for problem identification and problem solving using SF materials.

PUBLIC ACCESS

The SF Collection is the largest publicly accessible/open collection of SF (literature + media) in the Nordic countries.

NORWEGIAN/NORDIC SF ARCHIVE

The SF collection also houses copies of Norwegian and Nordic language SF, including books, magazines, fanzines, and ephemera.

SCIENCE AND SCIENCE FICTION

The principal focus of the collection is to link scientific thinking and speculative science fictional thinking, and to inspire interdisciplinary research.
